Brooklyn’s own H-D has returned with the release of the “Black Hoody” video. In his latest release, H-D tackles a number of topics including police brutality, systemic racism and violence. Using the imagery of a hoodie, the rising artist evokes the names of Trayvon Martin and other young victims of police brutality who were demonized due to the color of their skin.
“The champion is here. This is not an A Boogie hoodie. This is Trayvon quality stitching. There are no rainbows. There never could be,” he raps.
Director Anthony Mcelhaney takes hold of this video from the very beginning. Using the beautiful city of New York as the backdrop, H-D is backed by marching band and color guard as he moves from the streets to the rooftop. Fittingly, H-D is spotted wearing a hoodie honoring the late Kobe Bryant and Gianna Bryant as well.
Closing out the video, Mcelhaney and H-D come together to pay tribute to a young life that was lost due to the tragic conditions depicted in the lyrics of the song, Davell Gardner. The one-year-old child was killed by a stray bullet in New York just lat summer. In an effort to remember the young child, the video ends with a close up of a small memorial set up in his honor.
