Across the country, millions of American citizens are lining up at the polls to cast their ballot. In what many are calling the most important election of the century, voting records are being set despite allegations of voter suppression in states across the country. While there are many forces at play that may stop people from voting today, HBO has come together to encourage those who haven’t already voted to get out the polls.
In a short video released this morning by the premium cable provider, stars like Ed Harris, Sarah Jessica Parker and Lena Dunham can be seen encouraging their fans to get out and make their voices heard. Parker says, “It’s not just any Tuesday.” Dunham adds, “Tuesdays are for voting.” Harris brings it home by commanding, “Go! Now! Vote!”
Beyond the stars HBO’s hit series, some of its executives have also issued a call to viewers. Jason Mulderig of HBO said, “Voting is one of the most important rights we have as American citizens.”
The video was made in collaboration with Rock The Vote. Back in September, Rock The Vote and HBO came together to issue a similar video for National Voter Registration Day. Rock The Vote President, Carolyn DeWitt, stated, “It’s a powerful message you don’t typically hear from entertainment companies, but it goes to show how much is at stake in this election and how HBO believes in the power of each and every vote.”
In addition to this short video, HBO has also launched its Pod Save America series that has been tackling political discourse leading up to the election as well. The four part series will culminate this fall with the midterm elections.
