Well, this is it. We’re just over two weeks out from the last season premiere for Game of Thrones. (Be sure to check out Def Pen’s latest recap here if you aren’t caught up or just need a refresher.) But, HBO isn’t taking the month off as there are still plenty of shows and movies coming to the service in April.
Let’s get the obvious one out of the way first, for those last few people who don’t know: Game of Thrones season 8 premieres on April 14. That isn’t the only original series dropping this month though as Gentleman Jack has its series premiere a week later on the 22nd. Wyatt Cenac’s Problem Areas is also returning in April with its second season premiering on the 5th. This month also sees the series finale of the short-lived Esme and Roy, which bows out on the 27th.
HBO also has a number of big movies from last year premiering on the service this month. First up, The Nun drops early on April 6th. Its followed a week later by Crazy Rich Asians on the 13th, then Spike Lee’s Oscar-winner BlacKkKlansman drops onto the service on April 20th. A number of good older films are also hitting HBO in April. Notably, Annie Hall and the directors cut of Kingdom of Heaven will be made available on April 1st. Eli Roth’s massively underrated 2015 film The Green Inferno also hits the catalog on the 1st but I’d only recommend that one if you’ve got a strong stomach.
Unfortunately, we’ve also got to say goodbye to some great films this month so be sure to check these out while you still have the chance. Luckily, they won’t start leaving until April 24th, when Man on Fire exits the service. Then, a few days late on the 27th, Wonder Woman also says her goodbyes to HBO for a while. A few more days later on the 30th, even more films are leaving the service. Most notably, the extended edition of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and The Phantom Thread.
