Paul Millsap’s days in a Hawks uniform may be numbered. With Kyle Korver moving to Cleveland, it appears that Atlanta is ready to blow up the team, trading many of its longtime players.
One of the prime candidates for a Millsap trade is the Toronto Raptors. The closest team to the Cavs in the East, the Raps’ main positional need has been a power forward for some time now and Millsap could be a seamless fit.
In fact, he was very nearly a Raptor this summer when according to reports, Atlanta was ready to deal the power forward had Al Horford chosen to stay with the Hawks.
“They were all set to trade Millsap if Al Horford had re-signed,” Windhorst said on Tuesday’s TrueHoop Podcast. “They were going to trade him to Toronto. And then that deal fell through when Horford went to Boston.”
This seems to point toward revisiting the trade despite Millsap saying he wishes to stay in Atlanta. The Raptors may need to make moves to give themselves the slightest chance against Cleveland especially after the Korver trade.
Paul Millsap is the perfect fit in Toronto to do just that. Would he put them over the top against Cleveland? Probably not. But this is the Raptors’ best chance of pulling an upset and the trade seems like it could be happening sometime soon.
