Over the summer, the Atlanta Hawks worked out a deal with the San Antonio Spurs to send Tiago Splitter to Atlanta. The deal freed up some cap space so the Spurs could ink LaMarcus Aldridge to a deal and it also gave the Hawks a legit rim protecting big man to come off the bench in a nice little rotation with Al Horford and Paul Millsap.
This season has been far from a success for the Brazilian NBA champion. Splitter has only played 36 games this season due to a number of injuries and he’s averaging 5.6 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per game, his lowest averages in those categories since his rookie year in 2010-11.
Now Splitter will be putting an end to his less than stellar season by undergoing season-ending hip surgery.

The season is over for Tiago Splitter.
The Hawks reserve center has elected to have season-ending surgery on the right hip injury that has bothered him for much of the season, according to a person familiar with the situation.
The Hawks shut down Splitter for six games prior to the All-Star break to give the injury time to heal. Splitter got a second-opinion on the injury and surgery became an option.
