In this day in age, Twitter has become a hotbed for players and fans to interact with one another. With the All-Star game approaching, the NBA and Twitter have made it possible for fans to vote for their favorite player. Fans simply tweet out “#NBAVote” and add the player they want to see in the All-Star game. Every tweet with that hashtag equates to one vote, but retweets per tweet count as a vote a piece as well.
Unfortunately, player’s have managed to find a loophole in this system. They are tweeting their name or another players name, adding the voting hashtag and receiving thousands of retweets from their followers. Many players have done this, but more famously Sixers big man Joel Embiid has been the main culprit. Embiid has been trying to impress his supposed ‘crush’ with an All-Star appearance. However, Miami Heat center, Hassan Whiteside has not been a fan of the Twitter campaigns by players.
Following from Tim Cato of SB Nation
“I really don’t even want to talk about it,” Whiteside told The Miami Sun Sentinel.
“It’s more so a gimmick,” Whiteside said. “I look at guys and they just do stuff to win the fans over, make jokes on Twitter to get people to vote for them. It ain’t got nothing to do really with talent.”
It’s uncertain whether Whiteside was directly referring to Joel Embiid, but he made strong suggestions that lead most to believe he was. Possibly catching wind of Whiteside’s comments, Embiid took to Twitter and voted for Whiteside, taking a not so subtle jab at a hilarious situation.
