Free agent Hasheem Thabeet is eyeing an NBA comeback and has received some interest lately, according to Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times.
Thabeet was last seen on the NBA scene in 2014 with the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he played just 8.2 minutes per contest in 23 total games.
With the NBA season set to tip-off in three weeks, it’s unlikely Thabeet will be picked up by any team before then. While always possible, the chances are slim. Most teams have their preseason rosters set, already having a gameplan for the upcoming campaign.
The more likely option for Thabeet, other than signing overseas to possibly increase his value, is signing a 10-day pact with a team as the season moves forward.
Thabeet, who stands at a towering 7-foot, 3 inches tall, was selected No. 2 overall by Memphis in the 2009 draft. He’s been a massive disappointment since being selected, and, at 29 years old, hopes to come back stronger than ever this upcoming season.
Thabeet holds career averages of 2.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per game. Besides Oklahoma City, he’s played for the Grizzlies, Rockets, and Trail Blazers.
