Sacramento Kings rookie Harry Giles will be inactive until around January, the team announced on Friday. The Kings released a statement explaining the reasoning behind the decision:
“Sacramento Kings rookie forward Harry Giles will be out through at least January while he and the Kings training staff focus on a measured and sustained progression plan designed to improve physical strength in his surgically repaired knees. Giles is otherwise healthy and will continue as he has during the preseason to actively participate in controlled elements during team practices. Given his age, personal injury history and the wealth of scientific research supporting a methodical approach to ACL prevention and rehabilitation, Giles will continue on this track going forward and be reevaluated routinely throughout the program.”
Giles has had numerous injuries to his knees that date all the way back to his high school days. Giles tore the ACL in both his right and left knee in 2013.
The 20th pick in the 2017 draft battled with knee issues throughout his lone year at Duke University. The Kings’ goal is to make sure that Giles’ knees are at full strength and that he is ready to compete when his time comes.
Giles averaged 3.9 points and 3.8 rebounds in 26 games last year for the Duke Blue Devils. The rookie forward hasn’t played in any preseason games for Sacramento.
The Kings also drafted De’Aaron Fox and Josh Jackson this past May.
