Guillermo del Toro is set to produce and co-write a film adaptation of Alvin Schwartz’ book series, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
Andre Øvredal will be directing the film, written by Del Toro and Daniel and Kebin Hageman. The film is being financed by CBS Films and Entertainment One. Jason F. Brown, Sean Daniel, J. Miles Dale and Elizabeth Grave will be producing alongside Del Toro.
The story follows a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town.
Entertainment One’s President of Film, Television, and Digital released a statement on the news.
“Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, led by the incomparable Guillermo del Toro, is such a chillingly fun ride that it’s sure to leave audiences around the world jumping in their seats,” said Steve Bertram, eOne’s president, film, television and digital.
Guillermo Del Toro is coming off his Academy Award-winning film The Shape of Water, which won the awards for best picture and best directing.
Production is expected to begin sometime over the summer, there is no release date announced yet.
