There is a growing concern that Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul could miss the start of the regular season. Days after his accident with fireworks on the 4th of July the Giants organization is beginning to worry. The Giants have already yanked a long term extension off the table and now we may know why.

While no medical reports have been released yet it has been known that the Giants medical staff has been searching for possible nerve damage to his hands. Luckily for Pierre-Paul he did manage to keep all of his fingers but he did suffer severe burns on his palms and three fingers. While most people think a hand injury should be easy to overcome the opposite can likely be said as there is a ton of technique that involves a pass rushers hand movement. JPP is still in the hospital in Miami after over 36 hours since the incident, an indication that the injuries are obviously serious.
It’s unlikely that the Giants release Pierre-Paul from his franchise tag as the team can simply place him on the non-football injury list. The list also allows New York to not pay for his tag while he is unable to play. If JPP were to miss a large portion of the season it would place a gaping hole in the Giant pass rush as Robert Ayers, George Selvie, Owa Odighizuwa, and Demontre Moore do not posses the same ability Pierre-Paul does.
