The Memphis Grizzlies were absolutely derailed by injuries this season, and despite making the Playoffs this year, barely had anyone from their core to help them in the 1st round vs. the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs ended up sweeping the Grizzlies and Head Coach Dave Joerger was later fired. Joerger didn’t have much to really work with as the Grizzlies had to bring in multiple of their D-league players in order to complete their roster for the playoffs. One of those players was Grizzlies guard Jordan Adams.
Jordan Adams was drafted with the 22nd overall pick by the Grizzlies in 2014 and has spent most of his 2 year NBA career bouncing from the Grizzlies bench to their D-league affiliate the Iowa Energy. In the playoffs vs. the Spurs, Adams barely averaged 2 points, and now he is going to have cartilage transplant surgery on his right knee. According to the Memphis Grizzlies:
The Memphis Grizzlies today announced that guard Jordan Adams will undergo cartilage transplant surgery on his right knee today, Wednesday, June 15.
In August 2015, Adams underwent a lateral meniscectomy on his right knee after sustaining a partially torn meniscus during an off-season workout.
Sidelined for most of the summer and limited in training camp, Adams returned to play for a short period before suffering an unrelated injury to the articular cartilage in his right knee. Adams subsequently underwent a debridement surgery on January 12, 2016.
The 6’5 shooting guard, known for his basketball I.Q, by some in the Grizzlies, has had lingering knee issues since last year which has kept him from developing fully. Hopefully after the cartilage transplant today, Adams will be able to switch the direction of his career and become an asset for the Grizzlies.
