Going into the 2015-16 season, the Memphis Grizzlies have to be one of the favorites in the Western Conference. Their team will strive on the defensive end and they will prosper playing a slow and steady game with Mike Conley leading the charge at point guard and his two big men in Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol making plays in the paint.
One bright spot going into the season was the new additions the Grizz made. They signed a native of Tennessee in Brandan Wright, they traded for Matt Barnes who is all about the ‘grit and grind’ style and in the 2015 NBA Draft, they kept their first round pick and selected talented forward out of LSU, Jarell Martin, with the 25th overall pick.
Martin is a talented forward and was expected to become that next wave of young Grizzlies stars along with Jordan Adams, JaMychal Green, Jarnell Stokes, Russ Smith and fellow 2015 NBA draft selection, Andrew Harrison.
Now the plans for Martin’s development are put on hold for the time being.
Following from an official Memphis Grizzlies press release.
The Memphis Grizzlies announced that rookie forward Jarell Martin sustained a fractured left foot today following a collision with another player during a workout. He will undergo surgery tomorrow, Sept. 3, which will be performed by team physicians Dr. Fred Azar and Dr. Drew Murphy at the Campbell Clinic. There is no timetable for his return. Further updates will be provided when available.
No clear timetable yet for the 21-year-old but this isn’t a good thing especially after Martin didn’t participate in any Summer League action due a stress fracture he revealed almost immediately after the NBA draft.
This injury could stem from his prior foot issue but when he announced that he did have a stress fracture, there wasn’t any clear indication as to what foot was injured. Unfortunately for Martin, this isn’t the best start to an NBA career and hopefully he’ll be able to bounce back and progress towards success in his future.
