Gregg Popovich is one of the greatest coaches ever, he turned the San Antonio Spurs into an annual championship contender. The Spurs under Popovich have won five NBA titles, made six NBA finals appearances and have made the playoffs in 19 straight years!
But with Kevin Durant heading to the Warriors and creating another super team why haven’t the Spurs ever been considered a super team? Gregg Popovich, man of very few words had his take on it.

So why haven’t the Spurs ever been considered a super team? Probably because they’ve never had more than one superstar on the team at the same time. Newly retired Tim Duncan is a top ten player in NBA history but was the only true superstar on the Spurs. Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili at their peak were very good players but never superstars. David Robinson was a tremendous player but him and Duncan were never at their peak together.
Also super teams have loud, hated and flashy superstars. Tim Duncan is quite and out of the spotlight. How can you be a super team when your superstar has the nickname “The Big Fundamental?”
It also would have helped the Spurs if they won consecutive titles at some point.
