Gregg Popovich has used his platform as a tool to deliver some strong messages to start the 2016-17 NBA season. He has gushed about the relationship with his newly retired future hall of fame big man Tim Duncan, he’s denounced the next president of the United States and today he aired out his grievances on his team. A team that is fresh off a win.
On Monday night, after the Spurs defeated the Mavs 96-91, Popovich gave a speech to reporters outside the locker room about his team’s performance. He called the Spurs’ display “pathetic” in both play and heart. Popovich proceeded to exit into the locker room but shortly reappeared to give one final comment to the media.
Check out Pop’s passionate speech.

Again, THE SPURS BEAT THE MAVS 96-91.
The Spurs shot better than Dallas, from both three-point range and the field. The Spurs shot more free throws, turned the ball over less, was out-rebounded by only one and committed less fouls. So what’s up with Pop? Well, the world may never know. But this could be one of his classic motivation sessions, especially with two new starters in the lineup. He might be trying to teach them that they can do better, considering they combined for only seven points in a total of 35 minutes played.
