Gregg Popovich is a simple man. Only goes to games if it’s necessary. Sends players only if needed. And for some reason that angers a lot of people. Me and Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver are two of those people.
If you don’t know the story. Sarver ended up apologising to the Suns fans for the lack of turnout from San Antonio’s end which was without several players and also Popovich himself. He didn’t even turn up to coach.
Well as Yahoo! Sports covers. Gregg Popovich has retaliated to Sarver’s comments and I assure you. They’re in classic Popovich style. But first. Here’s what Sarver said.
”This is not the game you paid your hard-earned money to watch,” Sarver told the crowd. ”I apologize for it. And I want you to send me your tickets if you came tonight with a return envelope and I’ve got a gift for you on behalf of the Suns for showing up tonight. Thank you.”
Now here’s Gregg’s retort.
”The only thing that surprises me is that he didn’t say it in a chicken suit. I’ll just leave it at that,” Popovich said Saturday before San Antonio’s preseason home opener against Miami.
”As I said, the silliness begins. Most wise individuals would check facts before they made statements; unless you’re interested in putting on a show. In that case, the facts get in your way, as in this case.”
I get if you want to rest players. I mean if they don’t have the energy for preseason basketball how are they going to survive the regular season. But at least show up to the damn game. That’s just plain disrespectful.
