There was always something off when it came to the relationship between Greg Monroe and the Detroit Pistons, it was never solid. With all the Josh Smith stuff, Monroe clearly smelt mistrust in the air, as if the Pistons would deal him as soon as they got the chance.
Well now the ball is in Monroe’s court, he calls the shots and there are teams that want him. As for Detroit, Monroe doesn’t want to be where he’s not wanted.
“Stan had smaller teams in Orlando years ago,” Monroe told the Baton Rouge (Louisiana) Advocate on Saturday. “[Andre Drummond] is like Dwight Howard. So Stan wants to put good players around him. The team has different plans and I respect that. I don’t want to be anywhere I’m not wanted.”
Monroe can test the open market as an unrestricted free agent after the free-agency period officially begins at 12:01 a.m. ET Wednesday. He told the Advocate that he plans to meet with four or five teams in free agency.
That is a very good assessment by Monroe there. Andre Drummond is a beast, he’s one of my favourite players in the game and we all know that SVG and Dwight were getting it done in Orlando.
Now the Pistons have already made moves, grabbing Ersan Ilyasova, Stanley Johnson was a great choice in the Draft. It seems that the Pistons are getting ready for life without Monroe.
