Big man Greg Monroe, whom the Milwaukee Bucks dealt to the Phoenix Suns in a trade for point guard Eric Bledsoe, tells ESPN’s Nick Friedell that he was caught off guard by the deal:
Greg Monroe admits he was “blindsided” and “surprised” by deal that sent him to the Suns. Monroe says he would play in Phoenix, but acknowledges that it’s a strange situation because Suns organization is trying to figure out which direction it wants to go after acquiring him in the Eric Bledsoe deal.
Monroe, a protected first-round draft pick and a protected second-round draft pick were sent to Pheonix for Bledsoe on Tuesday.
Monroe was in the midst of his third season with the Bucks and had seen his role reduced; in five games, he’s played just 15.8 minutes per game, averaging 6.8 points and five rebounds per game; all of those averages were career-low marks.
Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Suns don’t want Monroe on the roster; Wojnarowski reports that the team will first explore the trade market in an attempt to flip Monroe, and then if that doesn’t work, they’ll likely work on a buyout.
