The Creighton Bluejays and Head Coach Greg McDermott have agreed to a multi-year contract extension. This decision comes after the Bluejays were eliminated from the 2022 NCAA Tournament by the one-seed Kansas Jayhawks in the second round. McDermott has coached the Bluejays for over a decade now and helped oversee their move from the Missouri Valley Conference to the Big East in 2013. While he has been considered for other jobs he has thus far stayed loyal to the Creighton Bluejays.

McDermott did incredible job this past season with a young team that dealt with multiple injuries. Won 23 games and almost knocked off Kansas in NCAA tourney.

In his 12 seasons with the Creighton Bluejays, Greg McDermott led the team to an overall record of 277-137, an MVC record of 37-17, and a Big East record of 95-70. He won the MVC regular-season championship once, the MVC Tournament Championship three times, and the Big East regular-season title once. McDermott also won Big East Coach of the Year in 2020 and helped his son, Doug McDermott, reach the NBA. The team has made the NCAA Tournament seven times and was set to make it an eighth time before the 2020 NCAA Tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.

The Creighton Bluejays have been highly successful under the tenure of Greg McDermott. They are in the NCAA Tournament more often than not and have made the Sweet 16 once. This contract extension is a reward for success and an incentive to stay with the Big East program for years to come.
