‘Grand Budapest Hotel’ & ‘Birdman’ Lead 2015 Oscars Noms

  • January 15, 2015
  • Gabe Romero

The nominations for the 2015 Academy Awards have been released and the quirky comedy ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ and the drama ‘Birdman’ lead the pack with 9 nominations each. Benedict Cumberbatch’s historical film ‘The Imitation Game’ wasn’t far behind with 8 nominations.

All three movies are nominated for Best Picture along with ‘American Sniper’, ‘Boyhood’, ‘Selma’, ‘The Theory of Everything’ and ‘Whiplash’.

The Best Actress category pins Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl) against Marion Cotillard (Two Days, One Night), Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Julianne Moore (Still Alice), and Reese Witherspoon (Wild) against each other.

Steve Carell (Foxcatcher) looks to take on Bradley Cooper (American Sniper), Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), Michael Keaton (Birdman) and Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) in the Best Actor category.

One of the more notable snubs of the list is ‘The Lego Movie’ which was surprisingly left out of the Best Animated Film category but was able to score one nomination under Best Original Song with their catchy theme ‘Everything is Awesome’. The actors of the Martin Luther King Jr. drama ‘Selma‘ were shut out of all acting categories despite the film earning Best Picture and Best Original Song nods.

The 2015 Academy Awards will be held on February 22 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood and will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.
