The Charlotte Hornets will be without small forward Gordon Hayward indefinitely after he fractured his left shoulder. He will be reevaluated week to week and will return when his injury is fully healed. Earlier in the month, Hayward missed eight games with what was called a shoulder bruise before returning for three games. Injuries have devastated the team to start the season and their play on the court has suffered some because of it. Hayward has had a hard time with injuries in his career and this is another unfortunate one added to the list for the small forward.

This season with the Charlotte Hornets, Gordon Hayward is averaging 16.3 points, 4.4 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game. He has paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 44.5 percent and a three-point percentage of 38.1 percent. Hayward is one of the top offensive options for the Hornets and without him the team could struggle more on that side of the ball. The team is currently 13th in the Eastern Conference with an overall record of 6-14.

Regardless, Hayward’s focus will shift to recovering and getting ready to get back on the court. We here at Def Pen Sports wish him the best in his recovery and eventual return to the basketball court.
