Phoenix looks like a possible Playoff team. But with the sudden emergence of Sacramento the West just got a whole lot harder. Which means that their slow start has been multiplied into a problem.
Goran Dragic might have the answer. He has said to Arizona Central that the reason for the mediocre start is because of the overload at the point.
Playing time is not even the major adjustment. Bledsoe and Dragic are playing barely fewer minutes than last season and Thomas’ 10-minute drop is natural, albeit not welcome, for his move from starter to sixth-man spark plug.
The hardest part is losing control of the ball. For men who have spent their basketball lives with the ball predominantly in their hands, each has to defer more and even stand in a corner at times waiting for a shot to be created for him.
“Because there’s only one ball and we’re all point guards,” Dragic said. “That’s an easy answer.
“It’s hard. That’s sacrifice. If Isaiah’s playing well, he’s going to stay in. Me and Eric, it depends who is playing better and who is going to be on the court. The other guy is going to be on the bench. It’s the way it is. We need to embrace that.“
They are truly exciting to watch but they will need to get sorted quick. The Western Conference waits for nobody. If you’re not over .500, you will be left in the dust and out of the Playoffs.
Dragic, Bledsoe and Thomas better find a system inside the system so they can become one, crazy efficient machine.
