Goran Dragic has some career defining choices to make. He has made a name for himself. Becoming a very solid, top 10 point guard in this league. Is driving to the hoop is so simplistic and somehow makes them so high percentage. He did great in Phoenix but then the Suns clearly spent too much time playing NBA2K and got a little trade happy. But Dragic saw it coming, asked for a trade and ended the season over in South Beach.
Now Goran only spent a couple of months with the Heat. Maybe if he was there for a year he wouldn’t be so reluctant to stay in Miami but hey. Dragic is a free agent and we can only guess as to where he’ll be playing next season.
Now as we all know. Only the Heat can offer Dragic a 5-Year deal. And that means something. Goran Dragic knows how powerful that potential offer is.
The fifth, additional, year that only the Heat are allowed to offer could be worth as much as $26.2 million.
“It’s pretty big,” Dragic said of securing such a fifth season. “Because every player wants to sign as long as he can. Of course, my goal is to stay in that spot that I’m going to sign.”
While it is difficult to overlook an additional $30 million, Dragic said it also will be about more than money.
“I mean, of course every offer, we’re going to go through,” he said, with the Los Angeles Lakers among the potential suitors. “But I think that the most important thing is the team, who is around me, what kind of style. Because, first of all, I want to be happy, happy to play that style of basketball that I want to play. And I think that’s the main thing for now, not the money.”
And if he keeps that mentality. He’ll stay with the Heat. Miami’s style of basketball is great. The Lakers on the other hand. Mmm no.
It’s simple. You want a good quality of play and commitment. South Beach is the place for you.
