If you’re tired of receiving those annoying calls from unwanted scammers, Google may have a solution. Currently, the Google phone app turns your screen red when a caller that is believed to be spam calls your phone. Google has refined this feature to provide a more subtle alternative. Google’s phone app now automatically filters out calls that it believes to be spam and sends them to voicemail. Better yet, your phone won’t even ring or vibrate and you won’t get a notification if you do happen to get a voicemail from that spam number. If you want to check the voicemail, you will still have the option to do so and the calls that are marked as spam will still end up in your call history. As Google states on its help page, “You’ll still see filtered calls in your call history and be able to check any voicemail you receive.”
The one minor hole in the feature is its inability to detect neighborhood spoofing. Google phone can’t automatically detect spam calls that may have a similar area code as you. However, Google is working to resolve this issue and allows users to report the number to better the experience for themselves and other users. The updated Google phone app is now available in all major app stores.
