As the COVID-19 pandemic surges on, Google has made an effort to offer expanded resources to all of its employees in the United States. This week, the tech giant announced that it would make free COVID-19 tests available to their 90,000 employees in the United States.
Google’s new program will be powered by the healthcare company, BioIQ. Google will pay $50 per test and all U.S. employees will be eligible for one test per week. In return, Google will allocate nearly $4.5 million per week for the program.
As of now, the program will be available to all U.S. employees of Google and their subsidiaries like YouTube. The company hopes to expand the program to international employees by 2021. It also extends to employees that may be working remotely as well. In this sense, it does differ from large corporations like Amazon that only offer free testing for employees who will be traveling to office or warehouse locations.
Ultimately, Google hopes that this program will help keep employees healthy, happy and safe.
