Last night, one man dazzled the world on national television for all to enjoy. Stephen Curry put on a show as he dropped 45 points on the Portland Trail Blazers on TNT. While he was at it, he also managed to break his own record for most made 3’s in one season. Because why not?
With this performance, it sent the twitter world buzzing at the thought that Curry seemingly solidified his case for the MVP award. While that is still up for debate, one thing is for certain, his head coach, Steve Kerr, has been reluctant to admit it all season.
He’s actually been critical of Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey and his extensive campaigns for his MVP candidate, James Harden. Now it appears that coach Kerr might be taking his words back and hopping on the Curry MVP bandwagon.
Following from Ethan Sherwood Strauss of ESPN.
It took a little while, but Stephen Curry finally cracked Steve Kerr. After chiding Daryl Morey for vocally running James Harden’s MVP campaign, after steadfastly avoiding a similar campaign on Curry’s behalf, Curry’s 45-point performance Thursday forced the words right out of the mouth of Golden State’s coach.
“There’s nothing left to say. Except that he’s the MVP.”
Kerr was asked, “That counts as campaigning?”
A grin spread across the coach’s face. “Yes.” Curry was incendiary enough to melt any pretenses.
“He was, he was just — I don’t even know how to describe what I watched tonight,” Kerr said before arriving on, “Scintillating. Every move, every shot, just amazing skill. I have never seen a player with this skill set.”
The debate will rage on until the end of the season and beyond right until the time that the winner is announced. The media voters have until this week to send in their ballots and they definitely have a tough choice between a few guys.
Curry and James Harden seem to be the top 2 candidates to win the award but there can be cases made for a few guys. That’s the fun of it though, taking guys and comparing them, debating on who you think will win it. You just can’t fault Steve Kerr for picking his MVP a little later than a few other guys did.
