In a space of two years, the Golden State Warriors have gone from slowly growing NBA franchise, to the most well run franchises in major American sports. At the moment they’re the gold standard in roster, team, fans are great, behind the scenes they’re business savvy is on point. The Golden State Warriors are a well oiled machine.
They are now getting the awards to cement their greatness on all sides. This in particular is handed by the Sports Business Journal. Golden State Warriors, sports team of the year. Warriors owner Joe Lacob was also given ‘Sports Executive of the Year”. Can’t battle those titles.
“Being named Sports Team of the Year and Sports Executive of the Year is a true testament to our Strength in Numbers and the incredible group of people we have in our organization,” said Lacob. “We are committed to being one of the top franchises in professional sports and it’s a true honor to be recognized for our efforts by the Sports Business Journal.”
Now when we see awards like these we just assume they pick the winning team because they were the best in their respective league and did it in spectacular fashion. Oh no, they got several reasons why they gave them the award.
Renewed over 99% of their season ticket holders for the 2016-17 season (fourth straight season with a renewal rate over 90%).
• Capped season tickets at a franchise-record 14,500 and currently have a Season Ticket Holder Priority Wait List of over 28,000 members.
• Sold out all 49 home games during the 2015-16 season (including playoffs) and currently have a 183-game sellout streak at Oracle Arena.
• Generated a 20% increase in financial growth of new corporate partners year-over-year and on average grew existing accounts by over 30% in revenue.
And that’s just some of the highlights. They’ve improved so much, not as a team, but as a franchise/business. To think just two years ago they were bounced out of the Playoffs by the Los Angeles Clippers.
