Dahntay Jones signed to the Los Angeles Clippers before the All-Star break and since that time, Jones has played double digit minutes with the team, only once.
He is not a member of the main Clippers rotation, in spite of Los Angeles’ wing depth issues. Some people may have been surprised when he appeared on the TV on Sunday afternoon after the Golden State Warriors defeated the Clippers.
Most people didn’t see Jones on Sunday during the matchup between the Warriors and Clippers.
Well that just means most didn’t stick around for the post game interview to see the incident Green referenced.
This was a clearly intentional bump by Jones of Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green.
The Dubs kept the Clippers comfortably close all afternoon before walking away with a 106-98 win.
Dahntay Jones didn’t see one minute of action. Draymond Green played 27 minutes.
Green dropped 23 points in the victory, and while Green and Jones seemingly don’t have any prior feud to warrant the move, it does appear this is a classic Dahntay Jones move.
Like the very ‘unsportsmanlike’ plays Jones did here to Kobe Bryant on 2 separate occasions.
The bump is a cool, subtle addition in this rivalry between the Warriors and Clippers. It was nice to be reminded of what Dahntay Jones does for a team, the dirty things that all the ‘nice guys’ wouldn’t do. Green didn’t take great offense to it at the time either, which made his postgame comments on the issue way more entertaining.
The Clippers and Warriors don’t like each other and that’s no secret. It’s only been a few short years into their rivalry but the two teams now rely on a role player having the season of his life and a lifetime NBA instigator to keep things interesting and spicy as the season heads towards its finishing point.
For some reason, It works. You can’t always have the big names get into it but come playoff time if Steph Curry and Chris Paul go eye-to-eye and trash talk, I don’t think anyone would hate it.
