The long-rumored spinoff of Suits has finally been given a title. The Gina Torres led series will be called Second City. While the original series followed the life of Mike Ross as he works his way through New York City at Harvey Specter’s law firm, Second City will follow Torres’ character, Jessica Pearson, as he dives into Chicago politics. The series will be produced by Torres with special assistance from Suits creator, Aaron Korsh.
When asked about the series, Chris McCumber of NBC Universal said, “Gina’s portrayal of Jessica Pearson as one of television’s strongest, most successful businesswomen has made a huge impact with fans. We can’t wait to explore this next chapter in the Suits legacy–and a brand new world for Jessica.”
Torres also added, “Fans of Suits have come to know Jessica as this confident kick-ass attorney who is always five steps ahead of everyone, but that’s only 5-10 percent of the entirety of this woman,” she said. “What is wonderful is that the audience will be treated to not just the greatest television expected of Suits but also peek into Jessica’s world.”
There’s no word on when the series will officially debut or when casting will begin.
