New York Giants have two star wide receivers but if you watched the 2015 season, Odell Beckham Jr was the one who stole the show. Their second star receiver is an undrafted slot receiver out of UMass, from New Jersey who also is heavily into fashion and acting but he hasn’t been on the field since 2014. Victor Cruz was on the Giants team that won a Super Bowl in 2011 and he’s one of the few players remaining from that fantastic team, yet his time with the squad could be coming to an end.
Despite Cruz’s success in his short career, as of late, he’s been brought down by some injury troubles and those same injury issues could be the main reason why the Giants are looking to restructure his deal for the 2016 season.
Following from Ed Werder of ESPN.
New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz has said he is willing to accept a reduction in pay to remain with the team, and a source says the Giants have told the player he must do just that.
The Giants are in negotiations with agent Tom Condon regarding Cruz, who has been told he will be released unless his contract is renegotiated, the source said.
With free agency scheduled to begin Wednesday, the Giants and Cruz consider this a priority and are working toward a resolution. It is not known how much the Giants are willing to pay Cruz…
Cruz has been unable to return to the field after a patellar tendon tear he suffered in October 2014 and he spent all of 2015 sidelined by a calf injury that ultimately required surgery. Cruz hasn’t seen the field for the Giants in over 17 months.
Cruz turns 30 during the 2016 season and he is scheduled to make $7.9 million in 2016 with a cap hit of $9.9 million. That would be the second-highest total on the Giants’ roster, behind quarterback Eli Manning so their interest in restructuring his deal is warranted.
