Jason Pierre-Paul has long been one of the best pass rushers in the NFL for over five years now, leading the charge for a New York Giants defense that moved on from the likes of Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck to put him at the forefront. Unfortunately, JPP had a fireworks accident in the summer of 2015 and his value was immediately tarnished. He lost over two fingers and some worried he wouldn’t perform the same.
But the Giants had some faith in him but not enough to keep their original $60 million extension offer. But they still signed him to two consecutive one-year deals. And it appears the Giants are looking to do the same at least one more time.
Following from Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Giants expected to use franchise tag on Jason Pierre-Paul by Wednesday if two sides cannot reach long-term deal by then, per league sources.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk adds some details on JPP’s tender.
It’s the non-exclusive tag, and it entitles Pierre-Paul to a one-year tender worth 10.14 percent of the total salary cap. At $166 million (the number isn’t finalized yet), that would be $16.83 million.
Pierre-Paul previously said he would not be interested in playing on another one-year deal like he has for the last two seasons.
“I’ve done proved it…There’s not a guy like me doing it with 7½ fingers.”
In 12 games in 2016, Pierre-Paul, 28, had 53 tackles, seven sacks, and three forced fumbles. He started slow but finally appeared to be regaining the form that made him a Pro Bowler in 2011 and 2012, registering 5½ sacks in his final two games before he went down with an injury.
