The U.S. Senate will have a few new faces next week after voters in Georgia took to the polls on Tuesday. In a shocking reversal from elections past, Georgia turned blue. After President-Elect Joe Biden won the state for the first time in more than two decades, the state is now being represented by two Democratic Senators.
After earning a victory over Kelly Loeffler, Senate-Elect Raphael Warnock appeared both excited and emotional. Warnock delivered a victory address that touched on his upbringing and his future.
“The other day, because this is America, the 82-year-old hands that used to pick somebody else’s cotton picked her youngest son to be a United States senator,” Warnock said.
“Tonight, we proved with hope, hard work and the people by our side, anything is possible.”
Hours after Warnock delivered a victory speech, Senate-Elect Jon Ossoff celebrated his victory. Ossoff defeated incumbent David Perdue by approximately 200,000 votes in an upset win.
“This campaign has been about health and jobs and justice for the people of this state — for all the people of this state,” Ossoff said.
“Whether you were for me, or against me, I’ll be for you in the U.S. Senate. I will serve all the people of the state.”
