The man who says Gucci Mane is his favorite rapper still wants a shot to coach in the NBA again.
George Karl has gone through cancer twice, has over 1,000 career victories, has won the Coach of the Year award, coached multiple all star teams, yet the 63 year-old ESPN analyst wants one more shot at an NBA job.
“I’m into the game. There’s excitement to my thoughts on the game,” Karl told USA Today. “I’m not bored. I’m not dull. I’m kind of like pumped to get that opportunity. So there’s a youthful enthusiasm and energy that comes when you don’t work for a year and a half.”
Karl last coached the Denver Nuggets in 2013, before being fired after winning the Coach of the Year award that season.
Reports were that the Sacramento Kings were interested in Karl after they fired Mike Malone, and while Karl said he was honored, he wasn’t interested at the time. Karl could possible become a Kings head coaching candidate at the end of the season, as Ty Corbin is currently holding that position on an interim basis.
Karl is one of the winningest coaches in history, and with teams who have coaches on the hot seat, like Oklahoma City, Brooklyn, Indiana, and Sacramento to name a few, there should be no question that George Karl will get some phone calls during the offseason.
