If you wrote a list of players that you would never use as a trade piece, DeMarcus Cousins would be high on that list along with LeBron, Anthony Davis and others. I mean how stupid was the Cousins trade talk this summer? I mean it’s like they want to become a D-League team.
George Karl didn’t waste time in alienating the franchise player, saying that “no player is untradeable”. Cousins obviously took that as a personal threat and spent the summer giving Karl the cold shoulder and it took until now for Karl to apologise to DMC.
“To be honest with you, I apologized to DeMarcus for making the trade comment that I’ve never coached a player that’s untradeable,” Karl told Christensen. “That was wrong for me to say, because you all (the media) took it and blew it up into crazy.”
“But it’s my responsibility to be smart enough to not say things like that,” Karl continued. “So I did apologize because I thought that was the only thing, maybe some other things, but really the only thing that got us separated was that comment that then everybody wrote the we’re going to trade [Cousins].”
I like Karl as a coach, but I still don’t see why they fired Michael Malone. Well I do, it’s because Vivek Ranadive is trigger happy, but they were doing okay before DeMarcus Cousins went out for a couple of weeks. Malone literally got fired because their best player took ill. Brilliant.
But no point dwelling on the past, it’s up to Karl to get DMC focused and to take the Kings up to new heights.
