Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and California Governor Gavin Newsom will meet for a debate in Alpharetta, Georgia on FOX News at 9 p.m. EST. Moderated by Sean Hannity, the debate will explore “the vastly different approaches the two governors have and offer insights into their political philosophies as well as ambitions for the nation.” Throughout the discussion, the two lawmakers will discuss the following topics: the economy, the border, immigration, crime and inflation.
DeSantis is currently in the midst of a run at the nation’s highest political office. Currently, he sits second in preliminary polling across the Hawkeye State as the Iowa Caucuses near. Nationally, he also ranks second among Republican candidates, leading former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. With that said, DeSantis sits nearly 47 points behind former President Donald Trump nationally and 26.9 points behind him in Iowa.
Newsom has ruled out running against President Joe Biden in 2024, but he is rumored to be a frontrunner for the 2028 election within the Democratic Party. In fact, a recent Nexstar poll puts the governor 18 points ahead of Trump in the current election. Furthermore, a FOX News poll put the governor just four points behind Trump nationally in the current election.
