Founded in 2002, Gamefly has acted as one of the leaders in the gaming space for over a decade. In its sixteenth year of service, the gaming company has undergone a number of noticeable changes. Most notably, the company was acquired by EA earlier in the year. This week, Gamefly has decided to make another major announcement. At the end of the month, the newly acquired company has announced that it will shut down its streaming service at the end of the month. While the company will continue its mail service from here on out, users using the streaming platform will not be billed after this month. Furthermore, support service for the platform will end after this month.
In the future, Gamefly and EA will focus their efforts on their cloud service for gaming. EA’s CTO, Ken Moss, said, “Cloud gaming is an exciting frontier that will help us to give even more players the ability to experience games on any device from anywhere.” Moss later added, “We’re thrilled to bring this talented team’s expertise into EA as we continue to innovate and expand the future of games and play.”
As Gamefly continues to merge into EA’s future plans, it will be interesting to see how they further evolve.
