Season 8 may’ve gotten off to a somewhat slow start but episode 3 finally delivered. The Battle of Winterfell saw the end of some beloved characters. Theon, Edd, Lyanna Mormont, and Jorah among others all gave their lives during the battle. It wasn’t in vain though, Arya made sure of that when she stabbed the Night King. With the undead threat now taken care of, its time to settle the War for the Iron Throne.
If you missed last week or just need a refresher check out that episode’s breakdown here.
We’re sure you’re just as excited as we are to have Thrones back in our lives, even if it is just for six weeks. Def Pen’s gonna make the most out of those six weeks though so be sure to check after each episode to catch our breakdowns of what happened, and what we think is gonna happen next.
Immediate Reactions
Es:
HOLY CRAP. What an episode. This was what fans have been waiting for. All those boring and dull moments in episode 1 and 2 have led to this. This was the epitome of epic, I am at a loss for words.
Grant:
Oh my god. Oh my GOD. That episode was incredible, it was everything I hoped for and dreaded. We lost some incredible characters but it was worth it to see Arya kill the Night King.
This Week’s Winner
Es:
Shall I say the human race? I think everyone can thank one person for humanity’s victory… Arya Stark. First of all, Melisandre blesses her by pretty much implying she’s destined for greatness, making Arya run off. Where to? We found out about 45 minutes later when the Night King was at the opposite end of one of the greatest moments in Television history.
Grant:
Well I’m gonna go with everyone, even Cersei honestly. The Night King is no longer a threat and the dead stay dead now so that’s good for everyone. Obviously, Arya gets special recognition for being the one to actually kill him.
This Week’s Loser
Es:
I don’t even want to say loser but you got to give it to Jorah. He wasn’t a loser but he did die so I guess that’s an L. Overall though, he fought honourably and dies even more honourably defending Daenerys against the Walkers. Regardless, you knew with this episode coming that death was around the corner for someone on the ‘good side’ and it unfortunately happened to be Jorah.
Grant:
I mean, I gotta say the Night King is definitely this week’s biggest loser. Everyone lost a lot, many lost their lives, but he lost EVERYTHING. To a teenage girl too, that’s a rough way for an ancient Ice Demon to go out.
Best Moment
Es:
This is a no-brainer. Arya Stark hit the Night King with that euro-step knife-move that disintegrated all the white walkers so you really can’t say anything tops that. It was easily one of the greatest moments in television history.
Grant:
Yeah, there’s no way it’s not the kill shot Arya pulled on the Night King. Melisandre’s “What do we say to the god of death” moment shouldn’t go unnoticed either. She basically told Arya to go end it.
Worst Moment
Es:
We lost another damn dragon. You know, you would think that Dragon’s were more reliable but they are as much a resource as they are a liability.
Grant:
This was a rough episode all around but I think for me the worst was Jorah’s death. he’s been here since the first season, the first episode too, I think. Dany crying over his body after he dies protecting her is one of the saddest moments in the show.
After What Happened Tonight, Who’s Most Likely to Sit on the Iron Throne?
Es:
Well Arya’s future son or daughter’s claims to the throne has gotten exponentially better after what happened tonight. I think even Melisandre hinted at it. Especially with what went down last week with Gendry, I would not be surprised if he put a baby in Arya.
Grant:
I mean, I’d say it’s either Dany, Jon, or both now. They just stopped an undead invasion so they’ve got to be riding high despite the losses. I’d watch out if I were Cersei.
Future Predictions
Es:
Cersei has been quiet this season. Too quiet. That’s probably what the next 3 episodes are about. Now that the Night King is out of the way, who is the rightful heir and who deserves it? Cersei will obviously have her say in that.
Grant:
Cersei’s about to get punked. Jon and Dany are gonna be pissed that she didn’t help them and even though they may’ve lost a lot of men at the Battle of Winterfell they’re going to throw everything they’ve got at her.
