Season 8 of Game of Thrones is now in full swing and most of the major players found their way to Winterfell this week. We are just 4 episodes away from the end so I will savor every moment I get with the crew. Although this episode was just another conversational episode with little to no action, we inched closer to their all-but-certain war with the Night King.
If you missed last week or just need a refresher check out that episode’s breakdown here.
We’re sure you’re just as excited as we are to have Thrones back in our lives, even if it is just for six weeks. Def Pen’s gonna make the most out of those six weeks though so be sure to check after each episode to catch our breakdowns of what happened, and what we think is gonna happen next.
Immediate Reactions
Es:
Such a frickin’ tease. I’m sure Grant agrees with me here but can we just get to it? The showrunners have done a great job at teasing who’s going to die because I honestly have no idea. There were so many goodbyes in the episode that it could be anyone. Shit’s about to go down.
Grant:
Can it just be next week already? Tonight’s episode was great and all but I really want to see that battle. I did really love this episode’s reliance on dialogue in the lead up to the Battle of Winterfell.
This Week’s Winner
Es:
Arya is the winner here. First of all, she got her weapon and her man? That’s a win no matter what. She also did it with class. I’ll give it to ‘Sir Brienne’ but Arya is the lowkey winner here. She’s ready for war and now she has even more to fight for.
Grant:
This week’s winner has to be Brienne. Her journey to get here has been one of the toughest of any character. But, she’s never wavered in her honor and that’s finally been acknowledged. And come on, did you see that smile? Usually, happiness doesn’t last long on this show though so I hope we still see Brienne smiling (and alive) after next week’s battle.
This Week’s Loser
Es:
Danny, you took the L. Right before the war horns, you find out that the man you fell in love is your nephew? Daenerys Targaryan is in the worst situation possible. She just spent the entire episode trying to be-friend all of her ‘new man’s’ friends and ends up finding out her man-to-be is family.
Grant:
Oh man, this one was hard this week and honestly, I think I’m gonna go with everyone. Jon and Dany just had a live grenade thrown into their relationship. The white walkers are bearing down on Winterfell. And then there was that Arya sex scene all of us were forced to sit through. So, yeah, I’m gonna say everyone this week.
Best Moment
Es:
Best moment has to be the goat milk story. If there’s one thing that proves that this show is trying to get all of the comedic relief out the way so that the real serious stuff can be handled at the end of the series. With all the teasing in this episode, we can tell something big is on it’s way– it’s the white walkers.
Grant:
For me, the best moment this week was Brienne being knighted. So much has led up to this moment for Brienne. She’s come a long way from where she started as a part of Renly Baratheon’s Kingsguard. The fact that it’s Jaime that knighted her only makes it that much better.
Worst Moment
Es:
While Arya was the winner of the week, we were not. We had to endure a horrible sex scene and it wasn’t pleasant. She still won though, but at our dismay.
Grant:
The worst moment this week was hands-down the Arya/Gendry sex scene. I’m all for them getting together but I never thought we’d have to sit through that.
After What Happened Tonight, Who’s Most Likely to Sit on the Iron Throne?
Es:
The case is getting stronger and stronger for Jon Snow. He’s still a long shot, but Jon ay end up on the throne.
Grant:
I mean, even though we didn’t see her I’d say it’s still Cersei. Especially with the ‘secret Targaryen’ thing throwing a wrench in Jon and Dany’s plans.
Future Predictions
Es:
At least 5 people are going to die in the next 2 episodes. With the amount of goodbyes we had to sit through throughout the episode, someone HAS to die. Be emotionally prepared next episode.
Grant:
Well, next week we’re definitely getting the Battle of Winterfell. We have yet to even sniff a death this season and I’m putting the over/under on dead characters at 5. I also think Brienne will give her life to defend Jaime. I would say it’s Jaime but her arc came to a satisfying conclusion this episode. I also think Jaime has to stick around to kill Cersei.
