After numerous rumours that Gal Mekel would sign with the New Orleans Pelicans, it is now official. According to Marc Stein of ESPN, he will sign a 2 year non-garaunteed deal, which means he will have to be on the rosters until January 10th to get his pay day. Mekel played last year for the Dallas Mavericks but didn’t seem to get much out of it due to Mekel’s lack of shooting and the amount of minutes available to him. Although the Pelicans have their own array of Point Guards to choose from, this signing comes as they realized their starting shooting-guard Eric Gordon will be out indefinitely. Hopefully they can move Austin Rivers to the 2 in order to open up the floor now. The Pelicans were a bad 3 point shooting team as it is, and losing Eric Gordon makes them even worse. Let’s see if Gal Mekel can get his shot.
