Humble Beast, the debut album from 21-year-old Chicago rapper G Herbo, is about his real life and experiences.
The 21-year-old G Herbo sets himself apart from the crowd of “new rappers” through his flows and his versatility of sound. The opening track, “Street,” was influenced by Jay-Z’s recently released 13th album, 4:44. This project is a true projection of Herbo’s skill as a storyteller, especially on track 8, “Malcolm.” Herbo explains that “Malcolm” is a song of an alternative life and if it would be any different if he wasn’t from Chicago.
While proving his lyrical capabilities, he stays dedicated and true to himself. Even on the songs where he is alongside peers like Lil Uzi Vert on “Everything” or “This n That” with Lil Yachty and Jeremih, he still maintains his individuality.
G Herbo has the makings of a complete rapper. On “Red Snow,” Herbo talks about the harsh violence of Chicago, describing the cold mornings of being awakened by shots outside his window.
“Kids getting up for school/ they ain’t setting no alarms they wake up to the sound of the drums.”
Before his debut album is released, G Herbo kept flooding his fans with new music. Just this year aloe, he’s released Humble Beast: Before the Album, Welcome to Fazoland 1.5, and Stricly 4 My Fans: Road to Humble Beast Playlist. With Humble Beast’s release, Chicago may have another Hip-Hop superstar.
Humble Beast releases on September 22.
