FX has ordered BBC drama Taboo, starring Tom Hardy for its network.
Taboo created by Steven Knight and Ridley Scott, is based on an original story by Hardy and his father, Chips Hardy, who is serving as a consulting producer.
Set in 1813, Taboo centers around a wild aadventurer[Hardy] who returns to England from Africa with 14 stolen diamonds, seeking vengeance after the death of his father.
Refusing to sell the family business to the East India Company, he sets out to build his own trade and shipping empire and finds himself caught in the cross hairs between two battling nations, Britain and America.
Production on the eight-episode first season will begin mid 2015, to premiere in 2016.
