What We Do in the Shadows released quietly in 2015 but has since gained a fervent cult following. One big enough to justify FX ordering a series based on the film early last year. Well, the premiere of that series is nearly upon us now and FX fired up the hype machine on Monday by dropping the first full trailer for the series.
It’s been known for some time now that the series would shake up the vampire roster a bit as the setting shifted from New Zealand to New York City. Only Jermaine Clement is reprising his role from the original film in the series. This caused fans to worry that the show couldn’t live up to the original. However, the trailer likely quieted many of those worries as it features the shenanigans and humor of the film aplenty. That and the fact that writer, director, and star of the original, Taika Watiti, is returning to direct and write the series alongside Clement. The trailer doesn’t reveal much but confirms the trademark style is still present and the humor hasn’t been watered down for television.
Check out the full trailer below:
Matt Berry, Jermaine Clement, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillen, Kayvan Novak, and Mark Proksch star in the series. Taika Watiti will hopefully make a cameo or two on camera but for now, he’s serving as director only.
What We Do in the Shadows premieres March 27th on FX.
