FX will not be moving forward with the planned animated Deadpool series that was set to be released this year. The series would have been written by Atlanta creator Donald Glover and Stephen Glover, who also writes for Atlanta.
The network released a statement Saturday to address the series’ cancellation. “Due to creative differences, FX, Donald Glover, Stephen Glover and Marvel Television have agreed to part ways on Marvel’s Deadpool animated series, FX will no longer be involved with the project. FX and Marvel have an ongoing relationship through our partnership on Legion, which will continue.”
The series would have premiered at some point later this year with the Glovers serving as showrunners, executive producers, and writers. It is unknown if Marvel plans on moving forward with the series without Glover and FX.
Deadpool first debuted in 1991 and has since become one of Marvel’s most popular characters. The first live-action Deadpool movie earned nearly $800 million at the worldwide box office. Its sequel hits theaters May 18.
The second season of Legion, FX’s other project with Marvel TV, premieres April 3rd.
