On June 6, only two dozen miles will separate Megan Thee Stallion’s performance in Hollywood and Gunna’s Miami show at the Kaseya Center. Gearing up for a blockbuster summer, the two superstars are going on tour, energizing their fan bases for what’s next. Unfortunately, this creates an apparent conflict as there’s an overlap between the Hotties and the Dripsetters, at least in South Florida. What do you do if you’re a fan of both and have to choose between two concerts happening on the same day at the same time? How can you choose?
For starters, consider your headspace and how you would like to set up your summer season. To mark her first headlining tour, the Houston native is hitting the ground running, promising the Hotties “the Megan Thee Stallion experience.” The tour aligns with her third studio album, her first as an independent artist after years of unbridled drama. Hot Girl Summer is suitable for those yearning for a season filled with confidence, manifested through Hot Girl Fit sessions and wanting to show it off as they party hard in VIP lounges (as they should). GloRilla, Memphis’ finest and Megan’s tourmate, is making headway as she follows her own fitness progress in preparation for the North American side of the fun-filled tour. Enjoying the success of her latest hit, “Yeah Glo!” GloRilla is the perfect partner to unleash what has the potential to be the biggest party of the summer. And speaking of confidence, the two stars share the same skill of being vocal and openly vulnerable, as the latter shared recently how her confidence wobbled, but she rose above it.

As far as the Atlanta Prince is concerned, the road has been dark, but the future looks ever so bright. After a year plagued with legal drama, Gunna’s been enjoying a resurgence. Announcing The Bittersweet Tour in February, the rapper sets out to confirm what we, on the outside looking in, already know about how the rapper may be feeling about this stage in his life. While vastly different, Gunna, like Megan Thee Stallion, had his fair share of legal woes in the recent past. While a fraction of music listeners claimed to have sworn off the cool, calm, and collected rapper, he has built an unmovable fan base, particularly made up of women. Sharing the stage with Flo Milli, the Alabama star who has experienced heightened recognition on her music journey followed by her recent viral hit, “Never Lose Me,” will fit right in with the “rodeo dr” star.
The imagery used to promote the North American tour shows Gunna wearing a determined stare as a frosty background compliments his fur coat. One can analyze the imagery and realize that Gunna is here to stay regardless of the naysayers. The hitmaker is consistent and, in the face of adversity, overcame all that he saw and probably heard, both in the digital space and the real world. He’s released a flurry of singles, both as a feature and solo. On his single, “Bittersweet,” Gunna laments going through a rough time, acknowledging burnt bridges and how fame can be as sweet as it is bitter. The transformation that both of these artists had to go through publicly is a testimony of how to conquer any and everything that is meant to tear you apart.

Another common trait that ties Gunna and Megan Thee Stallion together is their ability to use fitness as an outlet while publicly working through recent trauma. This trait provides their respective fans with an example of alchemizing energy for good. Notably, both artists’ actions speak volumes because they use their platforms and resources to positively impact those needing help. Last year, Megan released a PSA for the national service campaign ‘Seize the Awkward,’ reminding the public that “it’s okay to not be okay.” With a dedicated website geared towards providing those with any mental health issues with resources for a diverse group of people, Megan shows she is who she says she is.
Then, there’s Gunna, who has partnered with Black Music Action Coalition (BMAC) and Live Nation, to support his non-profit organization “Gunna’s Great Giveaway.” By allocating $1 from every ticket sold on the tour to help inner cities in Atlanta, GA, he is selflessly encouraging future Atlanta artists to use their platform in order to help improve Atlanta economically.
Regardless of who they choose to see, fans won’t be disappointed in their showmanship. If history shows us anything, it’s that both Meg and Gunna know how to put on a show. As fans with limited time, money and energy, deciding what concert tickets to buy will be challenging. However, as countless artists announce tours back-to-back, the power actually lies with the fans.
The decision for the season is as follows: do you want jaws to drop when you walk by, or do you want to manifest everything you’ve been chasing your entire life? If you are able to do both, count your lucky stars. If you’re only able to do one, rest assured. You are in good hands regardless of your chosen road to having the best summer in 2024. May good news follow you no matter where you go.
