Greg Monroe is entering free agency as a restricted free agent, but that’s not stopping teams from pursuing him. Monroe’s been linked to The Portland Trailblazers, Atlanta Hawks, and Orlando Magic. Of course The Pistons have interest in bringing him back, but does it depend at what cost? Monroe averaged 15 PPG and 9 REBs which is pretty impressive considering Detroit had Andre Drummond and Josh Smith two respected rebounders around the league. Monroe has proven to be one of Detroit’s more successful draft picks in recent years, and has also shown he is consistent. He has developed a good post game with good footwork and also has developed a good 15 FT jumper to his arsenal as well.
I think Monroe winds up back in Detroit, but I can see Orlando or Atlanta being a good fit for him. Either way Monroe gets to play with a respected Center, but they may not be the most feared defensive tandem in the league if he’s in Orlando or Atlanta. Monroe could be an option for the teams that strikeout on fellow free agents Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James as well. I’d assume teams like Dallas, Cleveland, and The Knicks to take a look if they do not land either of those players. Stan Van Gundy has stated he would like to keep Monroe, but it’s the season of rumors and smokescreens so I take it with a grain of salt. With free agency officially underway I expect a lot of rumors to be ongoing throughout the off season.
