The Fred Hoiberg era has officially begun. Iowa State is now in the rear view mirror and he will now look ahead to bring a championship back to Chicago. In my opinion I think he can get a ring but I’m foreseeing a better Eastern Conference down the line so his chances are slim.
But hey. I can’t just shut him down on the day of his first press conference as Bulls head coach now can I? Let’s stay positive. Bulls GM Gar Forman expressed his love for the hire.
“Obviously we’ve known Fred for a long, long time and felt very highly of Fred,” Forman said. “We have great respect for who he is as a person, and we have great respect for the job that he has done. He’s a talented, in-demand coach that has attracted significant interest throughout the league and was on top of our list as we began this process … as we [visited with him] it became very apparent to us that he was the fit that we had talked about. A fit with our players, a fit with our team, and he was the right guy to maximize the potential of this basketball team.“
Hoiberg mainly talked about his experience, trying to assure everybody that he’s the right man for the job. And then he went on to the squad.
“I love this roster, I absolutely love this roster,” Hoiberg said. “I love the versatility of the players, the different lineups that we’re going to be able to play. You can play small, you can play big, you’ve got lineups that I really think you can get out and play with pace. You’ve got a great group of veteran players that know how to play.“
I have wanted this Chicago team to succeed. I really thought they would make it to the NBA Finals this year but injuries and inconsistencies on the court kill them, it has killed them all season. With a few changes they can make it to the Finals, but if they don’t, I don’t see how Hoiberg will make it to the final year of his 5-year contract.
