Savannah Marshall may be only a few months removed from the first loss of her pro career, but she may have an opportunity to regain glory in a new weight class. Undisputed super middleweight champion Franchon Crews-Dezurn has expressed an interest in fighting the former middleweight champion. However, there is a minor caveat. If the bout were to take place, Crews-Dezurn demands pay that is commensurate with her champion status.
“She’s strong, she has experience. But I went straight to her front door to let her know I’m willing and able to fight you,” Crews-Dezurn said about Marshall.
“But don’t try to short-change me when I’m bringing all the marbles to the table. Give me the due diligence and the respect as an undisputed champion, who’s giving you an opportunity to become a champion again after you lost your belt.”
Crews-Dezurn is similar to Marshall in one noticeable way. Her lone loss as a professional came at the hands of her friend, Claressa Shields. Since then, she has put together a record of 8-0 with one no-contest. In her last bout, she beat Elin Cederroos by unanimous decision to grab the WBA and IBF super middleweight titles. Meanwhile, Marshall started off her career with 12 victories before losing to Shields by unanimous decision in October. Since then, Marshall has expressed an interest in securing a second fight with Shields. However, negotiations appear to have hit a breaking point as the Michigan native has publicly stated a desire to dictate the venue and location of the rematch.
