If you ever had trouble with math as a child, you could reach out to a tutor. If you ever had an issue with applying to colleges as a teenager, you could reach out to a counselor. If you have an issue with your money as an adult, you can reach out to a financial advisor. For almost every endeavor in life, there is something or someone who specializes in helping you reach your full potential in that field. The video game, Fortnite, is apparently no different.
According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, parents are paying as much as $35 per hour for tutors to teach their kids how to become better at playing Fortnite. One parent from England who has hired a tutor for her child said, “There’s pressure not to just play it, but to be really good at it.”
While the idea of paying for a Fortnite tutor may sound insane, it’s not as wild of an idea some may think. In fact, being a competent Fortnite player may have positive effects on other aspect of a kid’s life. In an interview with NPR, Sarah Needleman of The Wall Street Journal said, “Epic Games, the company that makes Fortnite, did announce recently that they’re giving out a hundred million dollars in tournament prize money over the next year. So they’re going to be arranging a bunch of competitions, and I believe a couple of them already kicked off. And then there have been some schools that have offered to – have offered scholarships for Fortnite.”
As time changes, education and technology is changing as well. Being a great Fortnite player could get someone into college.
