A police officer in Fort Lauderdale, Florida has been suspended after being caught on camera pushing a woman who was kneeling during a protest last week.
“If it’s turned out that he acted inappropriately, then we will have swift discipline in response to what he did,” Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis said.
We do not appreciate that kind of conduct, nobody in the department wants to be disrespected, and we feel this should never have happened,” Trantalis added.
Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Rick Maglione has also said that the officer will be investigated to determine if he broke any laws during the protest.
Fort Lauderdale is just one of many cities in Florida that have held demonstrations in the wake of George Floyd’s killing. Miami, Tampa Bay, Daytona Beach and Jacksonville are just a few cities that have had demonstrations over the last few weeks. With Juneteenth and July 4th on the horizon, it appears that this movement is far from over.
