Former Vice President Mike Pence appears to be looking for a promotion. As the calendar shifts from spring to summer, it appears that he is inching toward a run at the Oval Office.
“If we have an announcement to make, it will be well before late June,” Pence told CBS on Sunday when asked about his desire to run for President in the upcoming election.
“I promise when we have anything to announce, I’ll let you know, but I will tell you: we’re getting a tremendous amount of encouragement,” he told NBC News in a separate interview.
While taking time to determine his future plans, the former Vice President has become increasingly vocal regarding pertinent political matters. Most recently, he offered his thoughts on the Supreme Court’s decision to preserve access to the abortion medication, mifepristone.
“I’d like to see this medication off the market to protect the unborn,” he told CBS.
“I have deep concerns about the way the [Food and Drug Administration (FDA)] went about approving mifepristone 20 years ago.”
Mifepristone is a progesterone blocker that is commonly administered as part of a two-drug regimen to end a pregnancy without surgery. Used alongside misoprostol, it is commonly known under brand names like Korlym and Mifeprex. Recently, “the abortion pill” has become the focus of legal battles, particularly in Texas. However, the U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled to preserve access to the drug for the time being. As the upcoming presidential election nears, discussions regarding access to the pill will only increase.
“For the sake of protecting the unborn but also for the health and safety of women, I’m looking forward to this litigation continuing,” the potential presidential candidate added.
