The bad news in the past season for Cliff Alexander’s basketball career continues to pile on. The former star of the Kansas Jayhawks was dealt another blow to his basketball career during a pre-draft workout for the Los Angeles Lakers. Not exactly where you want to suffer an injury, especially when your draft stock has dropped from a potential top 10 pick to that of a guy who might go in the late first round, if he’s lucky.
Following from Eric Pincus of the Los Angeles Times.
On Tuesday, Kansas freshman forward/center Cliff Alexander suffered a right knee injury during a draft workout with the Lakers.
A team spokesman wouldn’t speculate on the extent of the injury. Alexander got through the bulk of the workout before getting hurt.
Cliff Alexander was dismissed from the Kansas program in his lone season with the Jayhawks. The freshman phenom was held out the final six games of the regular season along with the Big 12 tournament and NCAA Tournament due to his mother reportedly getting a loan with a firm that gives loans to high potential draft picks.
Alexander’s stock has dropped due to that issue along with less than stellar performances on the court for Kansas. Not to mention his recent performance at the NBA Draft Combine wasn’t exactly breathtaking. An event that should’ve had Cliff dominate in all the categories just saw him put up very mediocre numbers for NBA personnel.
Alexander has fluctuated in most NBA Mock Drafts between the late first round, which is where the Lakers will pick at 27 in addition to their number 2 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, and middle of the second round. Hopefully this isn’t serious for Alexander because anything major could mean he goes undrafted.
